BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.83 percent to 3,696.77 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.6 percent higher at 11,634.67 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices stood at 2.24 trillion yuan (about 314.5 billion U.S. dollars), slightly down from 2.28 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to PEEK plastics, liquid-cooled servers and the securities sector led the gains, while stocks related to the banking sector suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 2.61 percent to close at 2,534.22 points. Enditem
