China has been seeking a unique Chinese approach to addressing global hotspot issues, with a focus on adopting an objective and impartial position and offering multi-pronged solutions, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Sunday.

Wang made the remarks at a press conference on the sidelines of the annual session of the National People's Congress, the country's top legislature.

"When approaching a hotspot issue, we first need to take the pulse, adopt an objective and impartial attitude, and understand where the issue has come from and establish conceptions based on facts," Wang said, taking a metaphor from the traditional Chinese medicine.

"We shouldn't just listen to one side of the story and write out the wrong prescription," he added.

Elaborating on the metaphor, Wang pledged to follow a multi-pronged approach that seeks a political settlement that addresses the concerns of all involved, rather than resorting to the use of force or sanctions.

The minister also promised to address "both the symptoms and the root cause" of a hotspot issue and to "remove the breeding ground so that there will not be a relapse ever again."

China will continue to follow the principle of non-interference with internal affairs, and respect the sovereign equality of other countries, the minister said, vowing to "put forward Chinese solutions and play China's role" in helping to properly resolve hotspot issues.
