Chinese fighters practice 'touch-and-go' carrier landings

Photos demonstrate China's first aircraft carrier "Liaoning" is now capable of deploying carrier-based fighters. During recent trails, the J-15 carrier-based fighter aircraft practiced "touch and go landings" on the craft multiple times.

The "touch and go landing" is a maneuver that involves landing on a runway and taking off again without coming to a full stop. The move is used to train pilots to deal with emergency situations on the fly and improve their ability to land safely on the carrier deck, which are some of the basic skills that pilots must have.

"Liaoning" has a crew of 2,000 and carries a maximum of 30 Chinese-made J-15 fighters, which are derived from Russia's Sukhoi Su-33,

According to military experts, an aircraft carrier has a number of complex systems that require both team work and individual piloting skills in order to be successfully completed. The "Liaoning" will continue to undergo further training.
