China has made headway in technological innovation since 2002. Notable achievements include: the Tianhe-1 petascale supercomputer, hybrid rice that can yield more than 900 kg per mu (0.067 hectare), the Jiaolong manned deep-sea research submersible that can dive to a depth of over 7,000 meters, the Chang'e 1 and Chang'e 2 moon probes, and the docking of Shenzhou 9 manned spacecraft and Tiangong 1 space module.
