No casualties have been reported after a chlorine gas leak occurred in a bio-tech firm in central China's metropolis of Wuhan Saturday morning.

The municipal fire department said firefighters have evacuated workers and residents in and near the company, and prepared to dispose the chemical goods.

The fire department received a report on the gas leak from the Wuhan Xingwang Bio-Tech Co. Ltd. at 6:30 a.m. Saturday.

An initial investigation by local authorities has found the company had 3 tonnes of chemical trichloro-isocyanuric acid, a new bactericide, in stock. The chemical began to release pungent chlorine gas after it was soaked by rainwater.

An air quality test conducted by the municipal environment bureau Saturday morning showed no air pollution was tested in the surrounding areas 150 meters away from the company's location Jiangjunsi Road in Dongxihu District.

A heavy downpour pounded Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province, Friday and inundated some of the low-lying areas of the city.
