Two local courts in China have sentenced to death two men on charges of trafficking and manufacturing of illegal drugs.

The Intermediate People's Court in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, convicted Hong Kong resident Chen Kwow-Wing on drug-trafficking charges in which nearly 800 kilograms of methamphetamine were involved, according to the court statement issued on Tuesday.

The court also sentenced Zhu Sida and Gan Jianhang to death with reprieves, Chen Chaonan to life in prison, and Huang Jianjin to 15 years in jail for their roles in assisting Chen.

The five were caught on Aug. 20, 2010, according to the statement.

In Shaanxi province, the Intermediate People's Court of the city of Xi'an sentenced 49-year-old Wang Liang to death for the manufacture of about 13.5 kilograms of methamphetamine since 2009.

Wang formed a manufacturing ring with Xie Zunfu, Chen Yuanbing and Xiao Yueshuang, who all received life sentences for their roles, the court said.

China claims to have limited the use of death sentences in recent years, but retains it for 68 offenses, including drug trafficking and manufacturing.
