An investigation report into the deadly train crash in eastern China's Wenzhou City on July 23 has been submitted for approval by the State Council and may be released within this month.

Wei Zhen, a member of the investigation team set up by the State Council, said the draft report has been finished and is waiting for the approval, Xin'an Evening News reported today.

The State Administration of Work Safety ordered the team to finish the report by yesterday and announce the results to the public during this month, Wang Dexue, deputy director of the administration, said at a meeting in July.

Forty people were killed and more than 200 were injured when a bullet train rear-ended another on the night of July 23 near the Zhejiang Province city of Wenzhou – one of the most deadly train accidents in China's history.

Preliminary investigations revealed that defective signaling equipment at Wenzhou South Railway Station had caused the fatal accident. After being hit by thunder, a malfunction caused the signaling equipment to mistakenly show a green light that should have been red at the time.
