China dispatches 21 CRH trains to serve Beijing-Shanghai railway after recall

China has moved 21 high-speed CRH 380A (L) trains from other railway lines to ensure the operation of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway after 54 trains used on the route were recalled over safety concerns, a train manufacturer said Sunday.

China South Locomotive & Rolling Stock Corp. (CSR), the country's largest train manufacturer, said a total of 67 high-speed trains are in operation on the Beijing-Shanghai railway.

China CNR Corp., (CNR), another major train manufacturer, announced Friday that it would recall 54 high-speed trains used on the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway over safety concerns.

The Ministry of Railways on Thursday unveiled a new plan to slow down the operational speeds of the country's high-speed trains, as well as reorganize bullet train schedules nationwide, for safety reasons.

The ministry also cut the number of high-speed trains running daily between Beijing and Shanghai to 66, effective as of Aug. 16.

The CSR has established a new service center in the city of Jinan in east China's Shandong Province, an important stop on the Beijing-Shanghai railway, to meet increasing maintenance requirements.

The CSR has also ordered more quality checks for the company's products.

The State Council, or China's Cabinet, ordered increased safety checks after a fatal train collision that killed 40 people last month raised concerns over the safety of the country's high-speed railways.
