The possibility of mudslides has increased in the quake-hit Yingjiang County, of southwest China's Yunnan Province, the Beijing Times reports.

The Ministry of Land and Resources (MLR) warns that an emergency investigation has found water spraying and sand emitting from house foundations and farmlands in five villages close to the epicenter of the 5.8 earthquake.

Experts explain that earthquakes with different magnitude scales have struck the area since last December, which may have loosened the soil and damaged rock structures in the nearby mountains, increasing the risk of mudslides or landslides.

The Ministry said they would further focus on the investigation and prevention of geological hazards over quake-hit areas.

A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck Yingjiang County near the border with Myanmar last Thursday, leaving 25 people dead and more than 250 others injured.
