Government vehicles will be installed with GPS (Global Positioning System) in South China's Guangzhou to curb misuse and cut unnecessary expenditure, said Su Zhijia, secretary of the City Commission for Discipline Inspection, Guangzhou Daily reported on Wednesday.

Su said that a satellite positioning terminal will be installed on each official vehicle after Spring Festival and a unified monitoring platform will be launched for 24 hour monitoring.

Through the platform, a car's position can be checked at any time and show on the map. Its travel route can also be painted on the map, Su said.

The system also permits monitoring staff to talk to people in the car at any time.

When cars enter a forbidden area, the system will immediately report it and all the information will be reserved as a reference.

The city will also take corrective actions in controlling the number of official cars and strictly deal with the problems in car purchasing, borrowing off limits and luxurious decoration, Su added.
