The Hong Kong Customs during an anti- smuggling operation on Friday seized high-value electronic goods worth about 5.3 million Hong Kong dollars (682,100 U.S. dollars).

In a statement, the Customs said that its officers found a gang of suspicious men unloading goods from two vehicles onto an awaiting speedboat at the waterfront of Sha Tau Kok, New Territories Friday morning.

The customs officers took action immediately and as a result seized a total of 145 boxes of smuggling goods, including 210 tablet computers, hard disks and digital cameras.

The investigation is still going on.

Under the Import and Export Ordinance, smuggling is a serious offense. The maximum penalty is a fine of 2 million HK dollars and an imprisonment for seven years. (1 U.S. dollar is equivalent to 7.77 HK dollars)
