Chinese archeological workers have discovered ruins of an ancient workshop that combines processing of jade and stone objects in east China's Zhejiang Province.

Ruins of jade processing workshop discovered

The ruins, dating back to 5,000-6,000 years ago, are located in Fangjiazhou at Panlian Village of Yaolin Township, Tonglu County.

It is the first time that a workshop for a combination of jade and stone object processing has been found in China, experts with the Zhejiang Institute of Cultural Relics and Archeology, said Sunday.

The finds are of great significance for studies on the process to produce stone implements and jade articles in ancient time, as well as for research on exchange and transactions in primitive society, according to the experts.

Inside the ruins, piles of stone slices, and many primitive tools and other items related to stone and jade object processing were found.

Twenty-odd penannular jade rings each with an external diameter of three to four centimeters were also found in the ruins.
