A Chinese mainland official said in Beijing Wednesday that the mainland hopes to exchange views with Taiwan authorities on military issues "in an appropriate way".

The two sides could have exchanges on military issues, including cross-Straits military deployment, and discuss the establishment of a cross-Strait mechanism for military mutual trust to ease security concerns, Yang Yi, spokesman with State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, said at a press briefing.
