More than 8,000 people were evacuated to shelters and 10 people reported as missing were located and rescued after rain-triggered floods and landslides ravaged Wenchuan county in Southwest Sichuan Province, People's Daily reported Monday.

In all, 460 tourists visiting Wenchuan county were also transported to the provincial capital, Chengdu.

The 10 residents of a remote community were cut off from outside contact after rain-triggered floods and landslides Friday ravaged Wenchuan, the epicenter of a devastating earthquake in May 2008.

Rescuers made contact with them early Sunday, a county government spokesman said.

The local government and their families lost contact with the villagers after landslides damaged transportation and communication links, but rescuers managed to partially unblock a road and reach them.

No deaths have been reported in the county.

The rescue work is now complete and crews are attempting to clean up local waterways of debris.

Two days of heavy rain triggered more than 16 landslides in Wenchuan county, and caused 400,000 cubic meters of mud to flow into the Minjiang River, forming several barrier lakes.

The lakes have inundated roads and homes in the neighboring villages of Maojiawan and Dongjienao.

Thirteen people were killed and 59 are missing due to days of heavy rains and mudslides, Sichuan authorities said Sunday.
