600,000 in geological-hazard areas to be resettled

About 600,000 people who are living in geological hazard-prone areas of Northwest China's Shaanxi province will be resettled in next 10 years, according to the Shaanxi Vice Governor Yao Yinliang, Xinhuanet reported Wednesday.
Shaanxi will allocate 400 million yuan every year for the resettlement starting from 2011, striving to have the desired effect in five years.
Two heavy floods and other rain-triggered disasters hit Shaanxi's Ankang, Hanzhong, and Shangluo cities, which had the poor geological conditions from July 16 to 25.
The floods have affected 4.87 million people in nine cities and 64 counties of the province and forced the evacuation of 940,000 people by the beginning of August. The floods also caused an estimated direct economic loss of 17.1 billion yuan, according to a statement from the provincial government.
Shaanxi has been taking actions against the hidden dangers of geological hazards.
