Wang Huayuan, a former top anti-corruption official in east China's Zhejiang Province, went on trial in east China's Shandong Province Wednesday for allegedly holding a huge amount in unidentified properties and taking bribes.

Wang, former secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection, allegedly took advantage of his posts as secretary for the provincial commissions for discipline inspection in both Guangdong Province and Zhejiang, and as member of the standing committee of the provincial Party committees of the two provinces from the Spring Festival of 1998 to March 2009, sought profits for others, and took bribes totaling 7.71 million yuan (about 1.13 million U.S. dollars).

He was also charged for being unable to explain the source of properties worth of 8.95 million yuan.

The trial was adjourned to a later date.

Wang, 62, was detained and put under investigation in April last year. He was stripped of his membership of Communist Party of China and his post last August.
