Eight were killed and seven others were injured after a tricycle plunged into a roadside river in east China's Anhui Province on Monday, police said.

The accident happened at 1:38 p.m.on a road under construction in Woyang County in Haozhou City of Anhui, leaving five dead at the site, and three others died after treatment, police said.

Seven others were injured and had been sent to hospital.

Further investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
