Senior Chinese official Wang Lequan has told public security departments at all levels to resolve problems and provide psychiatric services for "special groups" to prevent extreme incidents.

"Problems for special groups concerning their livelihoods should be resolved with great efforts, and psychiatric consultations should also be provided for them," Wang said Wednesday in Shenzhen at a forum on comprehensive management of public security, referring to migrants, mental patients, drug users and released prisoners among others.

Wang, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and vice director of the Central Committee for Comprehensive Management of Public Security, said the current social management methods lagged behind the country's economic development and social conflicts were becoming more complicated.

Wang's remarks came after a spate of school attacks and suicides of factory employees.

In the most recent school attack, a 48-year-old man hacked to death seven children and two adults at a nursery in the northwestern Shaanxi Province, and killed himself on May 12.

The police investigation showed the killer had displayed signs of depression and anxiety and had attempted suicide twice in April.

In addition, in the past five months, 11 employees at a factory of Foxconn Technology Group in Shenzhen had jumped from high buildings and nine died.
