Wang Xuewen, deputy mayor of southwest China's Qinzhou City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, was killed in a car accident Saturday, the regional public security department said Sunday.

The accident happened at around 7:00 p.m. Saturday when Wang's car had a rear-end collision with a truck on the Lanhai Highway.

Wang suffered head injuries and was pronounced dead at 9:00 p.m. in a hospital. The driver of Wang's car was injured but the injuries are not life-threatening.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
