Road engineers will conduct thorough checks of roadside mountain slopes to prevent landslides, such as the one that killed at least four people on Sunday, said Wu Duen-yi, head of the Taiwan "Executive Yuan," the island's top authority, Wednesday.

A landslide struck a freeway between Taipei and Keelung Sunday, crushing an overpass and clogging the traffic.

Taiwan's freeway administration has confirmed that an initial visual inspection has revealed no further landslide risks at the freeway and the administration would conduct technical inspections.

The freeway administration announced Wednesday that rescuers had found four bodies and the wrecks of three cars. The bodies had been identified.

The administration also confirmed that earlier reports that a car and one person were still buried had been proved incorrect.

The administration's major work at the freeway had shifted from rescuing the trapped to clearing up the road.
