The Hong Kong SAR government Friday approved two more grants totaling 4.14 million HK dollars (533,849 U.S. dollars) to help relieve drought victims in the Chinese mainland.

A spokesman for the Hong Kong SAR government said the fund would be given to two relief organizations to undertake relief projects for drought victims in southwestern China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and Guizhou and Yunnan provinces.

Of the total, 2.64 million HK dollars would go to Oxfam Hong Kong, and the other 1.5 million HK dollars to World Vision Hong Kong, he said.

"The relief agencies have been asked to submit evaluation reports and audited accounts on the use of the grants after the relief projects have been completed," he said.

The grants were further to a disbursement of 135.85 million HK dollars made earlier for the government authorities of Guangxi, Guizhou and Yunnan, the Amity Foundation, the Association of Chinese Evangelical Ministry Limited, Operation Blessing Hong Kong Limited, the Salvation Army and World Vision Hong Kong to provide emergency relief to victims of the drought.

It made the total value of grants for drought victims on China' s mainland to 139.99 million HK dollars.
