Victims get support after deadly highway blast

Government has offered support to the injured and residents whose houses were damaged after the deadly blast Saturday morning in Xiaogan City of central China's Hubei province, municipal authorities said Sunday.
The government has allocated 2 million yuan (292,954 U.S. dollars) fund to cover the medical cost of the injured and accommodate those who lost their homes in the blast, a Xiaogan municipal government spokesman said.
More than 300 township and village officials were mobilized to support the people affected by the blast, recording their damage and helping them fix the houses.
The accident happened at about 12:20 a.m. at a section of the Beijing-Zhuhai Highway in Xiaogan City, leaving four dead and 25 others injured, including one seriously.
A total of 2,096 houses were also damaged, including 26 that collapsed and 29 left unlivable. Economic loss totaled about 507 million yuan, according to a spokesman.
Traffic resumed on the highway at 2:38 p.m. Sunday after the road, which was left with a 10-meter long and 1-meter deep crack, was repaired, municipal traffic police said.
Investigation is still underway.
