A zoo staff in northeast China's Liaoning Province was attacked by two Siberian tigers Friday afternoon and was still in coma on Saturday.

Yang Jingwei, 51, an auto door operator in the Shenyang Qipanshan Glacier Animal Park, was attacked by two tigers at 1:15 p.m. when he was cleaning the snow.

Yang's colleagues dispersed the tigers with a hunting rifle but they could not approach Yang as the tigers were still nearby. Police wounded the tigers with gunshots after getting permission from the provincial forestry department.

Yang was seriously injured in his head, neck, windpipe and suffered several bone and blood vessel fractures. He is being treated at a local hospital.

The park has a wild animal habitat area where the Siberian tigers, bears, wolves, camels and giraffes live. Two iron auto doors stand between the living areas of each kind of animal. When the tourist buses come, the auto door operators open the two doors.

The cause of the incident is being investigated.
