However, due to reasons concerning local governments, rural teachers’ salaries are still very low even after several hikes. Some teachers in north Henan Province’s rural areas only get an average salary of a little over 1,000 yuan, which is less than that of an ordinary urban worker. Also, teachers’ performance-based salaries lack transparency and often become a breeding ground for corruption. I hope the government can step up supervision in this area. (Xinhua Weibo)
