Chinese shares opened slightly lower on Wednesday following Wall Street losses overnight.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index was down 0.5 percent to 2,514.59. The Shenzhen Component Index dropped 0.51 percent to 9,629.22 at the opening.
On Wall Street, the Dow Jones industrial average lost 1.7 percent to 7,920.18, while the broader Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 2 percent to 841.50.
