Ericsson has signed framework deals with China Mobile and China Union – China's both leading wireless communication giants, the Sweden-based world's largest manufacturer of communication equipment said on July 9.
In the deals, which respectively totals 6.8 billion yuan (US$995.61 million) and 4.8 billion yuan (US$702.78 million), Ericsson is to provide 2G/3G equipment and related accommodation.
Ericsson is contracted to expand China Mobile's GMS/GPRS network coverage and capability in 18 provinces. In addition, Ericsson will continue to provide green solutions to China Mobile to help optimize its network efficiency while reducing carbon dioxide emission.
Simultaneously, Ericsson will become China Unicom's primary equipment provider for GSM network upgrading while offering GSM/WCDMA core network and/or wireless access system, including data transmission and value-added IP services.
Ericsson's Grand China President Ma Zhihong tells the press that the framework deals will help the two Chinese service providers increase their respective 2G/3G network capabilities and accelerate the initial 3G coverage in Chinese mainland.
