Ma Li is Associate Editor-in-chief of People’s Daily and Chairman of Board of Directors of People.cn. Ms. Ma graduated from China’s Northwest University with a master’s degree in Chinese literature. She is a Senior Editor and has been a recipient of the State Council Special Allowance since 2005. She has been a member of the 12th CPPCC, a member of the China Writers Association, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Society for Science and Technology Journalism, Vice President of the Chinese Ecological Civilization Research and Promotion Association, and has been selected as part of the National Cadre Education and Training Talent Pool. She has written many books including The Internet: A New Platform of Governance, 3,000 Orphans and Their Mother, A Plant and A Pursuit, and Years?Society?People, and Youthful Vigor. She won a national literature award in 1999 for excellence in writing for the book 3,000 Orphans and Their Mother.

Abstract

Serving to social conscience and observing progress over time, media play an irreplaceable role in closing the distance between people’s hearts. To well present the stories of Silk Road restoration and fully deliver the good will of cooperation among countries, media should attach importance to the following aspects. Firstly, the peaceful nature of the Silk Road Economic Belt should be clarified. Secondly, the shared opportunity brought by the Silk Road Economic Belt should be emphasized. Thirdly, the openness and creativity of the Silk Road Economic Belt should be fully reported. Fourthly, the moral standing and shared position of all the countries along the Silk Road on building the Silk Road Economic Belt should be publicized. Since the Silk Road Economic Belt was initiated, the editorial board of People’s Daily has paid high attention to and elaborately strategized the coverage of the Silk Road Economic Belt. 287 relevant articles had been published by People’s Daily by late May, many of which were written by foreign politicians and scholars. We have made specific plan to improve the coverage of Silk Road Economic Belt. By making full use of resources of People’ s Daily, we will report on the strategic decision made by Chinese government of building the Silk Road Economic Belt in a systematical, large-scale and brand-oriented way. To achieve cross-media, three-dimensional and syncretic reporting of the Silk Road Economic Belt, People’s Daily will emphasize both news reports and event-planning, use both traditional media and new media, and take advantage of both domestic and international resources. By exploiting both captivating news and excellent products suitable for international reporting, People’s Daily will make effort to promote Silk Road Economic Belt at home and abroad, so as to bring the concept down to earth, and keep it on the public focus. Media communication leads to interconnection between hearts. Once hearts connected, countries along the Silk Road will learn to appreciate China’s initiatives and come to enjoy peace and prosperity together.
