Hewlett-Packard (HP) is considering cutting up to 25,000 jobs, 8 percent of its total workforce, in a bid to reduce costs and help offset sliding demand for personal computers, according to an unnamed source with knowledge of the matter.

According to the source, the massive layoff would include 10,000 to 15,000 jobs from HP's enterprise services group, which mainly sells information technology services and has been facing declining profitability.

Several other sources said that HP chief executive officer Meg Whitman is about to launch a massive restructuring plan that will eliminate about 30,000 jobs. U.S. technology blog Business Insider estimated that any upcoming layoffs could account for between 10 and 15 percent of HP's 320,000 workforce.

HP spokesperson Michael Thacker declined to comment.
