Microsoft launched an investigation into the reported threat of group suicide by employees at Foxconn Technology Group's Wuhan factory, the main producer of the Microsoft Xbox, Sohu.com reported Friday.

Several U.S. media agencies reported Thursday that about 150 workers at Foxconn's factory in Wuhan spent two days on the roof of a building, threatening to commit suicide if Foxconn did not accept their compensation demands. Foxconn explained that the protest was a response to staff assignments and transfers, and has nothing to do with the factory's working conditions.

Microsoft said in a statement that good working conditions are a high priority at its OEM factories and the company is looking into the incident. The software giant also said it will closely monitor working conditions at Foxconn and will work to ensure the workers not be treated unfairly.

Taiwan-based Foxconn, which also produces the Apple iPhone and the Amazon Kindle, had a series of suicides by its workers in 2010. Working conditions at its factories have been under intense scrutiny since.
