Chinese shares closed lower for the morning break Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.15 percent, or 3.41 points, to close at 2,272.63.

The Shenzhen Component Index lost 0.21 percent, or 19.39 points, to finish at 9,219.82.
