Google Inc. and Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. have submitted anti-monopoly review applications for their merger deal to U.S. agencies and plan to file similar paperwork with regulators in Canada, China, Israel, Russia, Turkey and Taiwan.

The two companies filed for antitrust clearance with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Antitrust Division of U.S. Department of Justice on August 29, as required under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act. The status of the applications is still pending due to the U.S. agencies' mandatory 30-day review period after filing. During this period, U.S. regulators can either rule an "early termination" to acquisitions or require a "second request" for additional information and documents if they consider it necessary.

In August, Google announced to acquire Motorola Mobility for approximately US$12.5 billion in an effort to strengthen its patent portfolio.

According to regulatory filings by Motorola Mobility, the company and its board directors have already received 15 class action lawsuits against the merger deal.
