Chinese shares opened lower on Tuesday as Tokyo stocks dropped more than 6 percent after a massive earthquake rocked Japan on March 11.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index was down 0.33 percent to 2,927.98.
The Shenzhen Component Index fell 0.4 percent at the opening to 12,905.99.
