China's stocks closed lower in the morning trading session Thursday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index edging down 9.77 points, or 0.35 percent, to close at 2,741.76 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index lost 40.69 points, or 0.34 percent, to end at 12,073.87 points at midday.
