McDonald's has raised its menu prices on the Chinese mainland by between 0.5 yuan and 1 yuan per item due to rising materials costs, but prices in Hong Kong and Macao will remain unchanged, Newstarnet reported Wednesday.

The price of a Big Mac has gone up to 15 yuan. An insider said that, although McDonald's has been running promotions throughout the year, the rising costs of raw materials have forced an adjustment in menu prices.

The latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that China's CPI rose 4.4 percent in October. Many small and medium-sized restaurants have increased prices and larger restaurants are expected to follow their example.

China's business press carried the story above on Friday. China.org.cn has not checked the stories and does not vouch for their accuracy.
