The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) will work to promote the merger, acquisition and restructuring of enterprises in key sectors, especially those in automotive, iron and steel, cement, machinery manufacturing, electrolytic aluminum and rare-earth industries, chief engineer of the Ministry Zhu Hongren said Sunday.

Significant duplicate construction exist in these sectors, which affects the upgrade of industry structure, the change of the economic development mode, and the strengthening of industrial competence, Zhu said.
