Chinese equities closed lower at midday Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 39.11 points, or 1.47 percent, to end the morning session at 2,613.39.

The Shenzhen Component Index dropped 169.47 points, or 1.49 percent, to close the morning session at 11,242.63.
