Food prices rise for 10th straight week

During the last week of August, the market price of edible agricultural products monitored in 36 large and medium Chinese cities increased percent over the previous week's prices for the 10th consecutive week, the Ministry of Commerce said Tuesday. Prices were 0.2 percent higher than the week before.

The average wholesale price of 18 kinds of vegetables increased the most, by 1.9 percent. The price of eggs followed close behind, increasing 1.8 percent. Egg prices have risen 9.3 percent since mid-July.

The price of meat increased more slowly, with lamb up 0.5 percent, beef 0.4 percent and pork 0.2 percent.

Flour prices increased 0.2 percent, rice prices remained at the same level.

The price of aquatic prices dropped. The average wholesale price of eight aquatic products fell 0.6 percent.
