Chinese shares opened slightly lower on the week's last trading day, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares, down 0.16 percent to 1,875.16 at the opening.
The smaller Shenzhen index was up 0.06 percent to open at 6,621.22 points.
Other world's major stock markets fell Thursday on mounting concerns about global economic growth as leading US retailers revealed they are feeling the pinch.
