He also gives an example of Qian Xuesen (1911-2009), a prominent Chinese scientist who contributed to Chinese aerodynamics and rocket science.

"Today, we are proud of the country's great achievements and one of them is the aviation industry. Qian made invaluable contributions to the establishment and development of China's aviation industry. We want to honor Qian and others like him."

The documentary series also shows the achievements made after 1978, when China began implementing its reform and opening-up policy. The country then ushered in a new era of modernization and industrialization. The handover of Hong Kong and Macao in 1997 and 1999, the 1990 Asian Games and 2008 Olympic Games are also presented in the series.

The last 10 episodes portray the country's development since 2012, especially since the 18th Communist Party of China National Congress held that year.

Speaking about the preparations made for the series, one of the scriptwriters Liu Yue says: "We prepared the script for about seven months and there were many stories which touched and impressed us.

"We visited many historic sites and studied many documents. We are happy to present China through these true stories about the tremendous changes in the country."

Since its premiere, the series has met with a positive reaction online.

One netizen comments: "I watched the documentary with my grandparents, and they shared lots of memories about their youth and how they grew up through the country's changes."

Another comment reads: "The country has gone through a lot of hardships to achieve what it has today."
