World-famous conductor, Zubin Mehta, will give an additional performance at his Shanghai concert Wednesday, along with Italian Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra.

He will play German composer Johann Sebastian Bach's soul-soothing "Air on the G String," out of his scheduled repertoire, for earthquake victims and survivors in Japan and China's Yunnan Province and will call for public support in quake relief efforts during his concert at the Shanghai Grand Theater, March 23, according to Xinhua news reports.

The flamboyant and passionate conductor recalled his own experiences in the earthquake that wreaked havoc to the north of Tokyo on March 11, saying he felt awesome for Japanese who remained calm and orderly after the disaster.

Affected by the quake, the 75-year-old Zubin had to end his Japan leg in advance, with 6 performances unfulfilled.

Zubin Mehta will lead the orchestra for the remainder of the world tour that covers countries like India, Russia and Hungary, in a tribute trip marking the 150th anniversary of Italy's unification.

They will then move on to Su Zhou, the second stop in China.
