Selina Ren of the popular girl band S.H.E was seriously injured on October 22, 2010 on the set of her new drama I Have a Date with Spring. She and co-star Yu Haoming were shooting an explosion scene in Shanghai when she received burns to 54 percent of her body. She has had two skin grafts and will take at least a year to recover. It's estimated that her lost earnings may amount to 20 million yuan (US$ 3 million).

Also in 2010, film director Yan Po was stabbed by four men in Beijing's Chaoyang district on June 8, the same day his movie, Shaking Marriage, was released.

The director was in an underground car park when his attackers approached him and stabbed him repeatedly. Yan suffered several bone fractures and a severed achilles tendon. He was rushed to a nearby hospital after an emergency call from a passerby.

Ten men have been detained by Beijing police in connection with the incident. .
