Zhang Ziyi, one of the most recognizable Chinese faces overseas, suffered a series of scandals after last December's "Ink Gate"，when an OMEGA ad featuring Zhang at the Park Hyatt in Beijing was splashed with black ink by detractors.

In January, Zhao Xinyu, a former confidante, said Zhang had split up with her millionaire fiancé, Vivi Nevo. Zhang sued Zhao and Vivi Nevo issued a statement supporting Zhang. But it is not clear if the couple are still together.

Then Zhang was accused of fraud arising from charity work after the 2008 Sichuan earthquake. Zhang vehemently denied the accusations, but admitted to inexperience when she organized a donation drive for earthquake victims.
