A jury from the Chinese Writers' Association (CWA) failed to select a winner for the translation award of the Lu Xun Literature Prize. It was the first time the translation prize was left vacant in the history of the Lu Xun awards, which are held every three years.

According to chief judge Lan Renzhe, the jury found obvious mistakes, inaccuracies and even missing sentences in the five short-listed works. So the judges decide to withhold the award to preserve the credibility of the prize. But Huang Yuning of Shanghai Translation Publishing House said he didn't believe translation skills had declined so quickly that none of works qualified for the prize. According to the newspaper 21st Century, the failure to award the prize is a sensitive topic that jurors are unwilling to talk about.
