Though disturbed by volcanic ash and Tsunami, the 63rd Cannes Film Festival kicked off as scheduled on Thursday. As always, the star-studded red carpet attracted the spotlights of global media. Hundreds of movies will take part in the competition of various units to win the top prize Palme d'Or.

U.S. Time magazine has ranked a list of "Top 10 Cannes Film Festival Movies" of all time. Let's take a look back at those most remarkable movies.

1. "The Third Man", 1949

The early history of Cannes was quiet unusual. Beginning on September 1, 1939, the day when Germany invaded Poland, the jury panel actually awarded the top prize till 1946. Then with no prizes in 1947 and 1948, Cannes crowned an undisputed winner in 1949.

2. "The Wages of Fear", 1953

Directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot, this classic action movie narrated a story about adventurers' experiences in South America. "The Wages of Fear" achieved great success in Europe and the Americas, and also propelled its leading actor, Yves Montand, to international stardom.
