The 10th Kubuqi International Desert Forum kicked off in Ordos, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on Tuesday. Government officials, representatives of international organizations, and experts and scholars from more than 40 countries and regions gathered for the two-day event to exchange experiences in desertification control and explore innovative methods and technologies for scientific sand control and green development.
Leveraging the world's only large-scale international forum dedicated to desertification control, Ordos showcased China's latest achievements and solutions in the fight against desertification.
At this year's forum, participants from Brazil expressed strong interest in China's experience and technologies. With the semi-arid northeast, the Amazon rainforest, and the Cerrado savanna facing the threat of desertification, Brazilian representatives hoped to draw on Chinese practices to advance their own efforts.
Luiz Keppe, second secretary at Brazil's Embassy in China, said he had come to the forum to learn more about China's professional experience and innovative practices in combating desertification, and to explore the potential for cooperation between Brazil and China in this field.
The forum serves not only as a platform for dialogue, but also as a mechanism for promoting international collaboration to protect the global environment. Experts expressed the hope of identifying optimal solutions to desertification challenges.
Paulo Alexandre da Silva Pereira, a professor at Mykolas Romeris University in Lithuania, emphasized that countries must work together to develop context-specific solutions that respect regional diversity, improve livelihoods, and promote ecological prosperity in order to achieve harmony between humanity and nature.
Ordos has long adhered to a governance model featuring government leadership, enterprise participation, and public involvement. Through continuous efforts in desertification control, the city has made a vital contribution to building an ecological security barrier in northern China.
Ordos' success in desertification control has drawn global attention and won wide international recognition, said Zhang Weidong, director general of the Inner Mongolia Sand and Grass Industry Association.
