Real Betis winger Antony has urged the club to ensure that coach Manuel Pellegrini renews his contract at the end of the season.

The Chilean, 72, is in his sixth season in charge of the Seville-based team since joining in the summer of 2020, leading Betis to the 2021 Copa del Rey title and to last season's Conference League final.

Pellegrini's contract is due to expire in June, and there are rumors he could return to his homeland to coach the Chile national team. However, Antony wants him to stay at Betis.

"I don't know what's going to happen with the manager, but he gives me a lot of confidence, and that's why we give our all on the pitch," the Brazilian told Radio Marca.

Antony joined Betis on loan from Manchester United after falling out of favor with coach Ramon Amorim at Old Trafford, reviving his career under Pellegrini in the second half of last season, leading to a permanent move in the summer.

"I don't know if I'd be here if Pellegrini weren't here; the club really wanted me. The coach is fundamental to me coming here," said the winger.

Betis' sixth-place finish last season saw the club qualify for the Europa League, but Antony is determined to aim higher and compete in the Champions League next year.

"We dream of playing in the Champions League, and we have to be eager for that. When I put on the Betis shirt, I want to fight for every competition. We know the team we have," he concluded.
