Manchester City defender Nico O'Reilly has been called up to the England senior squad for the first time after Reece James was forced to withdraw through injury, the English FA announced on Monday.
James, who suffered a shin wound during Chelsea's Premier League victory over Liverpool on Saturday, has been ruled out of action following medical assessments. The right-back later shared a picture of the gash on social media.
O'Reilly, 20, steps up from the England Under-21s for the fixtures against Wales on Thursday, 9 October, and Latvia on Tuesday, 14 October.
Although primarily a left-back for City, his inclusion leaves Djed Spence as the squad's only specialist right-back.
A product of City's academy since the age of eight, O'Reilly broke into the first team last season, making 21 appearances and scoring five goals. He was also part of Pep Guardiola's squad for the Club World Cup in the summer and has already featured nine times this season.
