Uganda's Olympic gold medalist Joshua Cheptegei will take part in the 2025 Amsterdam Marathon.
"I can confirm that Cheptegei will run in the Amsterdam Marathon on October 19," Dominic Otuchet, president of Uganda Athletics told Xinhua on Friday.
Cheptegei, the 10,000m winner at the 2024 Paris Olympics, holds the world records in both the 5000m and 10,000m.
Otuchet said that they are very optimistic of Cheptegei performing well because he knows what it means competing at the top.
"Joshua is not new to the competitive stage and although he is new to marathon, he is very experienced," Otuchet added.
Cheptegei made his marathon debut in Valencia in 2023, finishing in 2:08.59, before clocking 2:05.59 in the Tokyo Marathon this March.
He will face tough competition from Kenyan runners and Ethiopia's Tamirat Tola, reigning Olympic marathon champion and course record holder in Amsterdam.
