Liverpool opened a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League after beating Everton 2-1 in Saturday's Merseyside derby, while Arsenal struck late to hold Manchester City 1-1 on Sunday.

City looked on course for victory after Erling Haaland powered through Arsenal's defense to score in the ninth minute. Pep Guardiola's side controlled the first half and dropped deep after the break, with Jeremy Doku the main outlet in attack. But Arsenal rescued a point in the third minute of stoppage time when Gabriel Martinelli latched onto Eberechi Eze's pass and lobbed Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Brazilian forward has now scored decisive goals in consecutive matches after netting in Arsenal's Champions League win in Bilbao.

Liverpool showed its attacking depth against Everton, with Ryan Gravenberch opening the scoring in the 10th minute before assisting Hugo Ekitike for the second. Idrissa Gueye's volley gave Everton hope, but Liverpool held on for the win, despite big-money signings Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz remaining on the bench.

Elsewhere, Bournemouth and Newcastle United drew 0-0, with Nick Pope saving Justin Kluivert's late free kick. Sunderland stayed unbeaten at home after Wilson Isidor's header canceled out Matty Cash's strike for Aston Villa, who had earlier benefited from Reinildo's first-half red card.

Manchester United eased pressure on coach Ruben Amorim with a 2-1 win over Chelsea in a chaotic match. Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was sent off in the fifth minute, and Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro put United ahead before Casemiro was dismissed and Trevoh Chalobah scored late for Chelsea.

Brighton squandered a two-goal lead against Tottenham, with Richarlison scoring before halftime and an own goal by Jan Paul van Hecke earning Spurs a 2-2 draw.

West Ham coach Graham Potter came under further scrutiny after a 2-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace, with Jean-Philippe Mateta and Tyrick Mitchell scoring for Palace and Jarrod Bowen replying for the hosts.

Fulham came from behind to beat Brentford 3-1 in the southwest London derby through goals from Alex Iwobi, Harry Wilson and an own goal, after Mikkel Damsgaard had put Brentford ahead.

Leeds United overturned an early deficit to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-1, with goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Anton Stach and Noah Okafor condemning Wolves to a fifth straight defeat.

At Turf Moor, Nottingham Forest drew 1-1 with Burnley as Neco Williams' opener was canceled out by Jaidon Anthony, leaving coach Ange Postecoglou still seeking his first league win.
