Rustem Umerov, secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, said that Ukraine and Russia are currently engaged only in humanitarian negotiations, the RBC-Ukraine media outlet reported Friday.
"At the moment, we are continuing the humanitarian part, under which we are releasing prisoners of war," Umerov said.
Umerov also emphasized that Kiev is anticipating potential talks with Moscow and Washington on ending the conflict following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to Washington last month.
"At this stage, I believe we are waiting for the trilateral or bilateral meetings to take place," he said.
Ukraine and Russia held three rounds of negotiations in Türkiye in May, June and July 2025, with Umerov leading the Ukrainian delegation at each session.
On Aug. 18, Zelensky met with U.S. President Donald Trump and several European leaders at the White House, with discussions focusing on ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
